This piece is a series of five 6’’ x 6’’ gouache paintings that is intended to be seen in conjunction with the artist’s other displayed piece “An Unnatural Cabinet of Curiosities”. Each painting depicts one of the artist’s original creatures after an encounter with a collector or scientist. The idea being that in order for a creature specimen to have been taken for the cabinet of curiosity, it had to have been removed from the creature itself. Each painting, and its coinciding missing body part, match up with one of the three-dimensional body parts within the physical cabinet of curiosity. With this series, the artist wanted to explore the phenomenon of cause and effect within both art and science.
