Hong’s Goodies
Performance Work
Hong’s Goodies comprises a body of works that collectively tells the story of Hong, who is a fictional character from Daughtersburg—an imaginary village where Hong’s only identity is a daughter. Here, filial love and responsibility pivots solely around acts of service. For instance, Hong is expected to give back to her family by producing eggs. Though conforming to the external expectations, intrinsically, Hong yearns to be free and pursue her personal passion for poetry instead of being bound to her family. One day, she bluntly breaks the norms by selling her eggs as a way of reclaiming agency. However, villagers are all enraged by her action, and Hong gets berated publicly. Humiliated and defeated, Hong eventually ties herself to a tree, accepts her fate and continues living her life only as a daughter.

Poison Root, Poison Tree, Poison Fruit
Performance Work
This mixed media performance piece explores the intricate relationship between mothers and daughters. A parallel is deliberately drawn between the seemingly routine love from mothers and a mock cult ritual celebrating the often unnoticed acts of giving and healing.
