Saskia M.
Chunky Monkeys
Acrylic, Canvas
This is a personal piece that represents four important stages in the artists life comprised in six frames. The top left box starts off with a collage that is a representation of her childhood and things that remind her of her younger-self. Bellow the first box is another one but it depicts her current-self with objects and things that she considers to show who she is as a person now. Next to the purple box is a blue one that consists of all the places she considers to be important in her life at the moment (Saudi Arabia, Washington, and California). The green collage is her idea of what her future might be, and the things she wishes for her future-self. All these frames are tied together with a silhouette of her body walking through the center of the frames. When the frames are watched in order it looks like she is walking through the pictures. The unique thing about this concept is that the only person that will truly understand the meaning of every object shown in the piece is the artist herself. Even though the content is about HER life, the point is to show how broad the idea of identity can be. When the artist thought about the theme Identity she couldn't help but notice how her identity is always changing and growing.
