‘Behind The Mask’ is a series consisting of diptychs, still lifes, portraits, moving images etc. As a junior photographer, I like to capture raw photos that look as if I caught the photo at the wrong time. The reason I do this is to show how one really is after doing something that may feel unnatural to them. Although with some of my photos, I do have staged photos. In that case, I do a diptych: one with a staged photo another with the raw image, and that’s where i got my title from. Many teens in our generation today hide behind different kinds of masks. For instance, they have a mask for when they are around their parents, friends, siblings, best friends, other peers— we all have those different kinds of personalities ( masks ). For my photos, I feel really strongly about capturing those emotions. Another thing in this series that is recurring is the different kinds of lighting that is highlighted, as well as the different kind of hand motions. I feel these two things can show vulnerability, compassion and in a way safeness. I hope to the viewer’s eye, my photos feel like extension of ones childhood, feel homey.
