‘Under the water’ is a piece that depicts a seal that is on its stomach with its tail touching its head. The piece symbolizes doing what you love and inspires you while having fun. For the artist, the seal represents this because they are widely known as playful, elegant and extremely intelligent creatures. From a young age the artist had a passion for nature and animals so the seal is a way to channel that passion and also refer back to childhood and play. By making the lampshade the shape of a ball, it conveys the sense of play from the ball even though the seal is working to keep it balanced. This project hopes for the viewer to reflect how they incorporate things that they enjoy into work and tasks that you don’t enjoy as much.
